Servotorq I

Servotorq is the underlying hardware and firmware technology at the heart of Overview's Integrated Servo Drives.

Servotorq optimises drive motion to ensure smooth, accurate and rapid movements.

Servotorq's comprehensive SDK allows access to a wide range of performance parameters and control inputs, enabling customers to achieve maximum performance across a broad range of applications.

Servotorq I uses a single-stage PID control loop to deliver precise velocity and both absolute and relative move control.

For enhanced performance, Miranda and Atlas feature a dynamic trajectory generator, further refining fit to the ideal S-curve motion.

Integrated Servo Drives powered by Servotorq I offer torques ranging from 40mNm to 2Nm and provide speeds up to 720°/s.

Servotorq II

Servotorq II is the latest evolution of Servotorq technology, delivering a much tighter control loop and significantly faster reaction times.

Servotorq II maintains the Servotorq I core command set, allowing seamless integration whilst interconnected PID controllers and additional motion filtering capability, allows customers to extract every ounce of performance from each drive across a wide variety of applications.

The fully interruptible third order trajectory generator within Servotorq II make equipped Drives ideal for highly dynamic applications. Versatility and application potential are further expanded by the introduction of CAN control and Helios’ on-drive inertial stabilisation.

The Servotorq II Drives offer torque of up to 4Nm and speeds up to 1000°/s.

Frequently asked questions

Here are some common questions relating to our Integrated Servo Drives.
Can’t find the answer you’re looking for?

What is an Integrated Servo Drive?2025-02-10T05:25:38+00:00

Overview’s unique Integrated servo Drives have been designed from the ground up, in the UK, to meet the exacting needs of accurate and agile pointing challenges such as the pointing of sensors.

Integrated Servo Drives are direct-drive. The payload is mounted directly to the drive with no intervening belts or gears resulting in true zero backlash motion and significant reliability benefits.

“Integrated” refers to the inclusion and integration within the Drive of four key elements:

  • A specialised, custom designed brushless DC motor optimised for precise positioning;
  • High performance drive electronics for this motor;
  • A custom developed, high precision optical rotary encoder providing real time position feedback;
  • An advanced “Servotorq” digital servo;

all in a small, convenient, cost effective and easy to use product.

Which supply voltages do Overview’s Drives support?2025-01-29T08:09:03+00:00

The supply voltage needed by Overview’s Integrated Servo Drives varies from across the range of Drives offered but is between 12 and 48V DC. Specific supply voltage information for each Drive can be found at the top of each product page.

Quick Start Guides and comprehensive Technical Manuals are available for all our Drives and provide the key information needed to get our Drives moving quickly.

What is the warranty for our Drives?2025-02-27T17:45:32+00:00

Each Integrated Servo Drive includes a 2-year standard warranty. Extended warranty periods are available dependent on application.

Select “Ask an expert” for further information.

How do I mount my payload to the Overview Drive?2025-01-29T08:11:34+00:00

Overview’s Drives are direct-drive, so you do not need to use any sort of gearbox or belts between the Drive and the load.

Simply bolt your load to the mounting holes on the Drive, ideally so that its centre of gravity is balanced, and you are ready to go.

Do Overview Integrated Servo Drive products have software command and control commonality across the range?2025-02-27T17:47:41+00:00

Yes, the control commands are almost identical across all our drives. All drives support I2C control interfaces. Helios also supports CAN.

You can therefore mix and match the drives across motion axes of your application, safe in the knowledge the control software being used will work effectively on all Drives.

Can I use different Integrated Servo Drives together in the same application?2025-02-27T17:49:39+00:00

Yes, the control commands are almost identical across all our drives. All drives support I2C control interfaces. Helios also supports CAN.

You can therefore mix and match the drives across motion axes of your application, safe in the knowledge the control software being used will work effectively on all Drives.
